Augusta Ventures is backing a new group litigation case that has been brought against Link Fund Solutions, administrators of Neil Woodford’s collapsed equity income fund, amidst claims that they failed in their duty to protect investors. At least £18 million worth of lost investment in the Woodford Fund, on behalf of 1,500 people, is being claimed by Harcus Parker, a specialist commercial litigation firm, with proceedings currently being held in the High Court.
The UK's Competition Appeal Tribunal has certified the collective claim filed by UK consumer champion Which? against Qualcomm for over £480 million. The claim is on behalf of a class of millions of UK consumers and alleges that Qualcomm abused its dominance in the markets for smartphone chipsets and standard essential patents, leading to higher smartphone prices for consumers. UK-based Augusta Ventures is backing a lead poisoning class action lawsuit in South Africa against Anglo American on behalf of a class that could potentially exceed more than 100,000 Zambian children and women of childbearing age. The claim arises from environmental contamination of villages in close proximity to the Kabwe lead mine in Zambia. Medical studies conducted over the past 45 years have consistently shown massive levels of lead in a significant proportion of young children in Kabwe. Generations of children have been affected. The case is being brought by South African attorneys, Mbuyisa Moleele Attorneys, in collaboration with London-based human rights lawyers, Leigh Day.
