3M has agreed to pay $6 billion to resolve hundreds of thousands of lawsuits alleging it sold defective earplugs to the US military that led to hearing damage for combat troops. Meanwhile, the judge overseeing the lawsuit has ordered plaintiffs’ lawyers to disclose how much of the proposed settlement (which still needs to be approved by the court) will go to funders, and has barred the lawyers and claimants from entering new outside funding deals without court approval.
