Alberta separatist leader Rath faces $109M debt claim from US investors

Delaware-based Diriba Investments, acting as agent for co-funder Western Springs Investments, is pursuing a debt claim of roughly $109 million against Jeffrey Rath, a Calgary lawyer and one of the most prominent public faces of the Alberta separatist movement, and his firm. Diriba alleges Rath defaulted on a 2018 funding agreement tied to First Nations and COVID-19 litigation by failing to remit proceeds and disclose competing security. Diriba wants a court-appointed receiver's mandate expanded to trace legal fees and other pledged assets. Rath denies wrongdoing.
