Australian Court Slashes Legal Fees in Aveo Group Class Action

The Federal Court of Australia has drastically cut the legal fees that a law firm can charge in a class action against retirement village provider Aveo Group due to the firm’s “dereliction and inefficiency” in handling the case, and also ordered that the reduced fees exclude the $7.69 million in costs paid to the law firm by litigation funder Galactic, which agreed to waive its 35% funding commission and all other costs except those paid to the law firm.
