Cleary, Freshfields secure major wins for Amazon and Apple as CAT strikes down class action

The UK CAT has handed down a landmark judgment refusing certification of a class action against Apple and Amazon on the basis that the proposed class representative was not truly an independent advocate for the class and was, instead, “merely a figurehead for a set of proceedings being conducted by their legal representatives”. More from the Global Legal Post.

Meredith Pickford KC and David Gregory of Monckton Chambers (instructed by James Norris-Jones and Paul Stuart of Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton) represented Amazon. Roger Mallalieu KC of 4 New Square, Lucinda Cunningham of Matrix Chambers, and Sarah Abram KC, Tom Pascoe and Michael Quayle of Brick Court (instructed by Bea Tormey and Simon Orton of Freshfields) represented Apple.
