Elumeo subsidiary secures litigation funding for nine-figure Vodafone claim

Juwelo Deutschland says funder will cover expected costs of damages litigation over allegedly excessive television distribution fees charged during a 14-year period

German jewelry retailer elumeo SE has secured third-party funding for a damages claim against Vodafone, with its wholly owned subsidiary Juwelo Deutschland GmbH entering into a litigation funding agreement with an unnamed funder to cover the expected costs of pursuing the case.

Juwelo alleges that companies within the Vodafone Group charged excessive feed-in fees over the past 14 years for distributing its television programming through Vodafone's networks. The company said its claimed damages are in the low three-digit millions, making the dispute a significant funded commercial claim. The announcement did not identify the litigation funder or disclose the amount of capital committed, the funder's return or other economic terms of the funding agreement.

Juwelo is pursuing the case alongside three other plaintiffs, and has instructed counsel to bring proceedings against two Vodafone Group companies.
