Government still eyeing client account interest to fund free legal advice

The UK Ministry of Justice is taking forward work on whether interest on lawyers’ client accounts could be diverted to fund legal services for people unable to afford advice. It is one of a number of options that have been considered, including the Civil Justice Council’s recent recommendation of potentially funding legal services using a small percentage of the profits from litigation funding, conditional fee agreements and damages-based agreements.
