LitFin backs €200 million collective action against Slovenia’s largest power supplier over alleged unlawful price hikes
Claim seeks redress for more than 300,000 households affected by unilateral electricity price increases since 2022

LitFin is funding a €200 million collective action launched by the Slovene Consumers’ Association (Zveza potrošnikov Slovenije – ZPS) against GEN-I, Slovenia’s largest electricity supplier, over allegedly unlawful and unilateral increases in household energy prices. The claim, filed with the Ljubljana District Court on October 16, 2025, seeks compensation averaging €600 per household—amounting to total damages of roughly €193 million—on behalf of more than 300,000 Slovenian consumers.
The lawsuit, led by ZPS and supported by Jereb Law Office, accuses GEN-I of breaching consumer protection laws by unilaterally raising electricity prices starting in August 2022, contrary to the terms agreed with customers. The claim asserts that the increases were imposed without sufficient legal basis or regulatory approval, placing a disproportionate burden on consumers amid Europe’s wider energy-price volatility.
According to LitFin, which is acting as exclusive litigation funder, the case will serve as a major test of Slovenia’s opt-out collective redress regime, one of the most claimant-friendly frameworks in Europe. The funder noted that the action demonstrates how Slovenia’s new procedural tools—introduced to align with the EU Collective Redress Directive—can empower consumers to hold dominant energy providers accountable.
The claim against GEN-I forms part of a growing wave of energy-sector collective actions across Europe following the 2022 energy crisis, as funders, consumer groups, and regulators test the boundaries of new EU-mandated redress mechanisms. If successful, the GEN-I litigation could become a landmark precedent for mass consumer compensation in Slovenia’s energy market.
