Litigation funder Burford loses bid to take over Sysco antitrust cases
A US District Judge has ruled that Burford cannot act as a plaintiff in two antitrust lawsuits filed by Sysco, with the decision hinging on the interpretation of Texas's 'anti-champerty' rule. Burford called the decision "illogical and unsupported by the law", and says it plans to contest the order, arguing that it purchased Sysco's antitrust claims in good faith and should be allowed to act as a plaintiff.
