In Wild Opinion, Chief Judge Connolly Refers IP-Edge Affiliated Attorneys for Disciplinary Action
Chief Judge Connelly has referred several attorneys associated with patent monetization firm IP Edge to their state disciplinary bars, the Texas Supreme Court’s Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Department of Justice, for shielding the identity of IP Edge, which allegedly stood to gain 90% of the gross recovery from the asserted patents and passed its litigation liability risk onto a handful of shell companies owned by “relatively unsophisticated individuals” to whom the attorneys owed duties.
